Lantau Link View Point

The Lantau Link View Point, located at the northwest corner of Tsing Yi Island, occupies an area of about 18,800 sq.m. It commands a magnificent panoramic view of Lantau Link to the west and Ting Kau Bridge to the north, and is a vantage point for viewing the Ma Wan Channel.

The facilities provided there include an elevated platform, the outdoor exhibits of components similar to those used in the construction of the Tsing Ma Bridge and the Ting Kau Bridge, and the Lantau Link Visitors Centre. Relevant information including pictures, photos and models relating to the construction of the Lantau Link and the Ting Kau Bridge are displayed in the Visitors Centre. A fee-paying car park which can accommodate 40 coaches and 73 saloon cars and a well-facilitated toilet are available not far away from the View Point.

Over 1,100 Bauhinia trees, including Bauhinia blakeana, Bauhinia tomentosa and Bauhinia glauca, together with some 38,000 pieces of Rhododendron, have been planted to increase the attractiveness of the View Point. It is now the one and only place in Hong Kong where one can freely enjoy and revel in the extravagant display of Rhododendron in blossom from late February till end of March every year.

An open café and a souvenir kiosk, operated by the New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, has started business there to cater for the needs of the visitors.

Since its opening in August 1997, the View Point has become one of the most popular scenic spots in Hong Kong for local and foreign visitors, attracting around 30,000 visitors per month, coming from abroad and Mainland China in particular. The trend is on the rise in recent years following the relaxation of restrictions on Mainlanders visiting Hong Kong individually and leads to a continuous increase in the number of tourists from the Mainland.

In 2009-10, with the support of Kwai Tsing District Council, renovation work was carried out at the View Platform.  Part of the red-iron fences were replaced by railings in form of European-style balustrade and some of the flowers and plants were replaced to provide a more attractive environment for visitors.

Chun Kwan Temple

The Temple is dedicated to "Chun Kwan", a commoner surnamed Ng who helped the local government to combat pirates in the Guangdong area during the South Sung Dynasty (1127-1279AD). To commemorate his heroic act, the Emperor bestowed on him the title "Chun Kwan" after his death, and people started to worship him as a god. The original Chun Kwan Temple was built about 100 years ago near the waterfront. The temple was relocated to the present site to make way for developments in the mid 1980s.

Chun Kwan's Birthday falls on the 15th day of the third lunar month with traditional Cantonese opera performances for 5 days.

Tin Hau Temple

The temple is dedicated to "Tin Hau". There are three Tin Hau Temples in the district. The one in Tsing Yi attracts many visitors and worshippers coming to pray for fine weather and peace during Tin Hau Festival. The Festival falls on 23rd day of the 3rd lunar month. However, Tin Hau Festival in Tsing Yi lasts from 1st day to 5th day of the 4th lunar month each year. The main features of the Tin Hau Festival are traditional Cantonese opera performances, which last for about five days, and the competition for the best "fa pau" or floral shrines. Participating bodies come from various districts in the territory and the adjudication panel is made up of community leaders and government officials.

Tsing Tak Tong Tat-more Temple

The Temple is dedicated to Tat-more whose native home was in ancient India. He was one of the ten disciples of the Buddha. After Tat-more's death, his worshippers honoured him with the title Tat-more the Master. In the 1950s when Tsing Yi Island had not yet been developed, some of his worshippers on the Island, who were migrants from Haifeng and Lufeng, built the Temple. Worshippers visit the Temple each year on Tat-more's birthday (22nd day of the seventh lunar month).

Kwai Tsing Reunification Health Trail

The Trail is situated in Liu To Valley, Tsing Yi and is embraced by picturesque scenery. It is a popular spot for morning hikers and visitors. It is about 6.2km and overlooks the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge and developments in West Tsing Yi. Hikers may take a rest in pavilions along the Trail.

Tsing Ma Bridge

The Tsing Ma Bridge, linking Tsing Yi Island to Ma Wan Island, is one of the world's longest suspension bridges, with a central span of 1,377 metres (the Humber Bridge in the UK is 1,410 metres long, while the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is 1,280 metres long). It is the first and biggest of the five major contracts tendered for the Lantau Link. Over 27,000 tonnes of cable and over 40,000 tonnes of steel were used in its construction. Its height above the sea surface enables ships to pass through the Ma Wan Channel underneath. A feature of the bridge is its specially designed aerofoil shaped deck. Under normal conditions, traffic uses the dual three-lane carriageway on the upper deck. The lower deck's sheltered carriageway is used only in bad weather or in emergencies. The lower deck is also used by the Airport Express train running from Hong Kong Station in Central and also the MTR Tung Chung Line. The work was completed in 1997.

The Tsing Ma Bridge is part of the Lantau Link, which also comprises the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and the Ma Wan Viaduct, three bridges connected together to form a continuous span. The Lantau Link is a vital component of the transport network serving the Hong Kong International Airport and Lantau Island. Facilitated by the Lantau Link, tourists can conveniently visit scenic spots located in different districts.
